to get luigi, go to adventure mode and don't finish until the number is 3, then you would normally fight mario but when mario jumps up, luigi will jump up and land on mario's head, sending mario into the water, then you will fight luigi and peach. If you beat luigi and peach, after you beat master hand, you will fight luigi again to get him as a character.

if you are ness, and you are falling off the edge.quickly press UP,and B.you will see
that you can control nesses PK THUNDER.now since ness go`s slower by falling
off the edge.swing the PK THUNDER around and hit his body.Then he will go straight foward which you will be back on the ground.Or if he is lower than the distance towards the ground hit his feet you will see he is going up which gives you a chance to make ness land on the ground safely.That is my true code

How to get Mewtwo:
Go to versus mode and do special melee, super sudden death. Put on 99 lives and die 99 times until you died 701 times. Mewtwo will vs. you if you lose to him just die once and he'll vs. you again. (I did this to get Mewtwo myself!!!)

Ok i've been following some info from this website and people are always saying the wrong stuff i got my characters the fair way so here's how to really get characters

Mewtwo, Pichu, and Dr. Mario- play Vs. mode a lot
Marth- beat adventure with the original characters
Roy- beat adventure mode with Marth
Ganondorf- beat event match number 29 in 1 player mode
Young Link- beat classic with the original characters
Falco- beat 100 man melee
Luigi- beat adventure mode with mario (tip: you know you'll get Luigi when you see a cut scene where you usually battle Peach and Mario)
Mr. Game and Watch- beat classic any mode any lives with Mewtwo
Tip: to steal a live just press start (you can only steal lives from allies that have at least 2 lives)

OK, you all know that the official guide book for super smash bros. melee tells you all the characters. However, there are secrete characters like ty the Tasmanian tiger shrek, shadow and a whole lot more. I will tell you how to get sonic if you are playing cruel melee. Here it is, you have to beat more than twenty wire frames.

you must finish the adventure mode, but finish the first stage with mario at 0:02:00.
(thats 2 seconds left on the clock, so you have a long time to spend)
after the first stage luigi will challenge you with princess. defeat him and at the end of adventure mode he will challenge you again defeat him and you can have him.
It can be on normal

HINT EVENT 50-use yoshi and in the air use down Z kill crazy hand

HINT EVENT 51-atttack giga bowser near the head where he cant reach you
often and you should use fox use up B and attack giga bowsers head then
when hes around 100 damage up smash attack and once bowser is dead rapidly
fire your laser gun at mewtwo and gannondorf they get stuped and flicker
their shield on and off

How to get luigi the easy way. Do 1player mode on adventure mode. Before you step on the black and white platform look at your time and wait till your seconds section has a 2 in it then step on it. For example, your time says you have 1:18 seconds wait until the 18 is 12. Now finish adventure mode then luigi will challenge you.

The two ways to unlock Ganondorf are as follows. Clear 1-P Event Match 29, Tri-Force Gathering. To reach Event Match 29, you must finnish 22 out of the first 25 levels. At first only 10 event matches are available from the start. Finnish most of those to unlock the next 10, and so on. the next way, is to play vs. mode more than 600 times.
